If I only need to take credit cards on occasion, do I need Clover hardware for that?

The simplest way to accept credit cards without having to purchase or lease a full POS system is to sign up for our Clover Account service. This plan will enable you to use your own laptop, tablet, or mobile device to accept payments in-person or over the phone. You can log into the Clover Web Dashboard from your device to access the Virtual Terminal. From there, you can manually enter the transaction details and credit or debit card information to complete the transaction.

Do I have access to Clover support with my Clover account?

Yes. Clover Customer Support helps ensure your business runs smoothly by providing several avenues for assistance, including:

Phone support: You can reach Clover’s customer support team by phone for immediate assistance with technical issues or inquiries.

Online resources: Clover provides a comprehensive online knowledge base, FAQs, and tutorials to help you troubleshoot and find solutions independently.

Additionally, from a browser, log into your Clover account and select Help from the top menu to access a range of support options.

For your security, we’ll ask for your Merchant ID (MID) or Tax Identification Number (TIN), so please have that information handy.

Are processing rates different for no hardware transactions?

Even though you may be face-to-face with your customer and holding the credit card, transactions that are manually entered instead of dipped or swiped at the point of sale are considered card-not-present (CNP). The card networks deem CNP transactions higher frauds risks because typically the card and the customer are out of sight of the merchant, such as in an eCommerce sale. Therefore, CNP transactions are charged at slightly higher rates to help protect against fraud risks.
